Declan’s great grandpa. Partial pooka. Ageless ancient eighth successor to the vast
fortune of Purple Mountain from the Old Country. Declan’s closest and best friend who has the responsibility of grooming him into the next, ninth and final, leader of Purple Mountain.
Great Grandpa George:
As a young child living on Purple Mountain during his training. Unique category
of human combinations and incubating chimeric Pooka. Positioned to inherit the vast
domain and wealth of all that Purple Mountain has waiting for him as Ninth and Final
Leader, if he will submit to the Book of Rules.
Declan:
Great Grandpa George’s downfall. Niece and spy for Pancho Villa. Pilot at the
Mexican border and G3’s lover. Refuses to join him back on Purple Mountain. Not a
Pooka and does not believe in the super natural. She is the reason women control men.

Maria:
The fluffy white playful shape shifting dog. Protector and
instructor of Declan He is a kind Pooka. Poet. Came down from the
constellation Sirius on a purple light beam. Prevented from teaching
Declan completely as a child, but always lurks in the distance for him
as a young man and as an adult.
Pooka:
G3’s wife and Declan’s great grandmother. Supreme leader of the Grand Council of Women for the entire Purple Mountain clan. The women of Purple Mountain are the real power in charge. Inventor of the Purple Mountain Red Tomato Sandwich. She is a
partial Pooka.
Fanny:
Declan’s mother. Known as the Butcher Knife Whore. Abandoned by her husband, Doyle. Mistreated by every relative and family member. Prostitutes to afford all of her seven children. Disrespected and disliked by both sides of her family, which gets
transferred to all her children. Not a Pooka. The kindest and most misunderstood member of Declan’s family.
Ginny:
An evil Pooka. Came down from the constellation Perseus, specifically the Demon Devil Star Algol, on a blood red beam. Shape shifts multiple times a day for his purposes, but mostly wears a black hoody. Always conniving. Always carries a bottle of evil Black Wine. Fiddlesticks is his constant companion and co-conspirator.
Khris:
An Evil Pooka. In cahoots with Khris to constantly cause trouble for the Purple mountain clan, especially Declan. Shape shifts constantly for the evil purposes of Khris. His greatest accomplishment is tricking Saoirse into becoming the mother to the next most evil Pooka, Darby.
Fiddlesticks:
Replacement grandfather of Declan’s. Owner of rural country store, probable father of Joy, and provider of Declan in the absence of his father. Husband of Bernetta and father of Katheryn. Not a Pooka. Pure heart and gentleness personified, but imperfect like us all.
Grandpa Tom:
“Momma Netta" to the child Declan. Steps in as a replacement for the neglected youngster. Wife of grandpa Tom and mother to Katheryn. Not a Pooka. Godly woman who wants to adopt Declan.
Grandma Bernetta:
Declan’s loving and doting “real mother” because she fulfills the role of mother who naturally feeds and loves her baby boy. Yes, she is polydactyl. Not a Pooka. Declan’s first book teacher of a wide range of college level subjects which he masters quickly. Secretly has soft feelings of love for Declan.
Momma Katheryn:
The Hermit of Kumbrabow. Son of Mileva and G2. Partial Pooka,
but is totally unaware of his lineage. Nobel nominee in Physics. Doing gamma ray burst research in Appalachia. Cousin to Declan. Owner of Faye and her children.
Dr. Rafael Lalo Smoot:
The Irish charcuterie of beauty. An entrée for the eyes and the dessert of many an Irish lad.
Childhood sweetheart and first wife of Declan. Not a Pooka. Disrespects Declan in every category and is an embarrassment for Declan while the hero gold digger of her mother. Never met a man she didn’t like, except Declan.
Saoirse Leda O’Shaughnessy:
Foreign psychiatrist, probably Slavic. Battled Declan as an opponent/therapist. Interested only in getting her American credentials and becoming famous. Has never met a patient she could not dominate. Secretly has soft feelings of love for Declan.
Dr. Clein:
Partial Pooka dog once owned by Faith as a puppy. Somehow pre-knows Declan and instantly forms a bond. Proud companion of The Hermit of Kumbrabow.
Faye:
As a young man living in and escaping from the projects unaware of his gestation of enormous gifts of intelligence, power, and resources. Only brief glimpses of his inheritance surface in times of crisis. Confused about his role in life while battling in oblivion amongst enemies, human and spiritual.
Declan:
As an adult. Poised to receive untold fantastical inheritance hidden from him for decades. Mired down and hindered from discovering his status within the unseen world of his ancestors by everyday troubles with his earthly family. The pieces are positioned for his ascension as Ninth and Final Leader.

Deaf classmate of Declan. From huge family of strict religious conservatives. Introduces Declan to an ancient style of singing and a modern way of thinking about love. Not a Pooka. Secretly has soft feelings of love for Declan.

Vice Principal Maria:
Younger sister of Faith’s pimp. Declan’s protégé in mathematics, social norms, and survival against family abuse and expectations. Establishes children’s school in Africa through Peace Corps. Has custody of Declan’s dictionary. Secretly has always had soft feelings of love for Declan.
Lisbef:
Second oldest multiple race sister of Declan. Uneducated, rejected, and taken advantage of by nearly everyone. Tossed around, ignored, and ridiculed by family and relatives, except Declan, who takes her in, protects, and provides for her. Not a Pooka.
Molly:
Brilliant mathematician and physicist. Tutor to a young Declan in graduate level studies. Becomes aware and frightened by Declan. Mother to Dr. Smoot, who was stolen away from her by communist government at age six. Introduces Declan to the magic of a slide rule and quantum mechanics. Reportedly related to both Tesla and Einstein.
Mileva:
Abandoned, heroin addict, multiple race next older sister of Declan. Returned to the
projects after a life of drugs, prostitution, and neglect from family and relatives. Caregiver of baby Joy and mother to a son with Friedreich’s Ataxia. Gave up three other children for adoption. Owner of half Pooka namesake dog, Faye. Not a Pooka herself.
Faith:
Discredited college literature professor. Alcoholic. Husband to Mileva. Backgammon gambler. Tricked by Declan into giving up the huge dictionary. Tutor to Declan in the world of the classic works of literature. Friend of Hemmingway. Not a Pooka.
